Director Homi Adajania is back with Cocktail 2, which is similar to his first Cocktail film, which was popular back in 2012. The backdrop this time changes from Goa to Sicily. Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon are back as the main cast while Rashmika Mandanna gets a cameo as old friend Ally, who makes things happen.
The narrative is about ‘Diya’ and ‘Kunal’ who embark on a journey to mend their relationship. Rather, it’s a return to an old friendship that puts their friendship to the test. It is a 16+ film, approximately 2 and a half hours in length. Let’s take a closer look at its effectiveness.

Cocktail 2 will be released in Indian theatres on 19th June 2026, just under 14 years after the original Cocktail entertained the audiences in 2012. The movie has been certified by the censor board as “A” (adult). It is the first adult film by Kriti Sanon and the second by Rashmika Mandanna after Animal.
The shooting was done from August 2025 to January 2026 in Sicily, Delhi and Gurugram. Following its theatrical release, the film is now streaming on Netflix, allowing viewers to follow Kunal, Diya and Ally’s messy love triangle from the comfort of their homes.
Cocktail 2 Cast And Crew
Kriti Sanon and Shahid Kapoor rejoin as the relationship on-again, off-again duo Kunal and Diya, while Rashmika Mandanna appears as the old friend Ally, who disrupts their relationship. This is noteworthy as it’s their first screen date. Mark Bennington, Tiku Talsania, Neelu Kohli, Suparna Marwah are the leads who will be supported by key cast members like S. L. S. Ravi Kumar, S. D. Tarapothi, D. J. R. Satruain, and Piyu Sharma.
Homi Adajania directs behind the camera, and is maintaining his theme from the first Cocktail of relationship drama. The writing is done by Luv Ranjan and Tarun Jain, the music by Pritam and the lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The film was made by Dinesh Vijan, Ankur Garg, and Luv Ranjan under Maddock Films and Luv Films in which they have been behind a number of recent Bollywood films.
Cocktail 2 Storylines and Plot
The essence of Cocktail 2 is to try a good-looking relationship. Kunal and Diya have been dating for years and since then marriage seems to be a formality and not a decision. However, strong pressure from the family to tie the knot soon leads them to leave for a trip to Sicily, hoping that they’ll find some peace and quiet there.
Except when they meet an old college friend of Diya’s, who now lives in Sicily as a free-spirited dance instructor, Ally. Ally’s introduction to the island starts to get a little messy. An offhand comment on loyalty raises doubts in Diya’s mind, and none of them can count on reason to prevail when she lets insecurity do the talking, leading each of them into an emotional mess they least expected.
It’s more serious than the Cocktail was in its themes of trust, commitment, and the depth of one’s relationship with the person one has formed a life with, but it is still a version of the original. It’s not a light-hearted love triangle, but rather a slow burn of what’s going on when insecurity takes the place of real conversation.
The novel culminates at a wedding when all the truths are revealed and all the guesses are put to the test, more or less at the appropriate time of the year. It’s not about who wins the love triangle, but whether or not relationships can withstand being tested by a love triangle that no one signed up for.
Cocktail 2 Budget & Box Office Collection
Koimoi reports that the budget of Cocktail 2 was ₹110 crore. Opening in the box office, it had a good start, but had some serious competition with new movies such as Dhamaal 4 and Welcome To The Jungle. At the end of the theatrical journey, the movie grossed approximately ₹166 crore worldwide and emerged as the 6th highest-grossing Bollywood movie of 2026.
It grossed about ₹104.5 crore net in India alone, which is approximately 95% of its production cost, from theatrical releases, and the remaining 5% from music, satellite and digital rights. Not a big hit, but a successful, profitable venture for Maddock Films with the figures.
Final Word
Cocktail 2 is not as fun or as easy going as the first film. Rather, it conveys a more weighty message of trust and long-term relationships. It received mixed reviews from critics, but it did attract some audience and it was a profitable film at the box office. In the mood for a light and nostalgic film like the original, this one may be a disappointment. If, however, you’re looking for a Bollywood love story that takes a more nuanced look at the reasons why relationships fail to trust, then this film is one to check out on Netflix.
